Key Decisions & Votes

• Airport Trail Lighting: The Council approved a proposal from Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) for approximately $207,000 to provide complete lighting around the Shawnee Airport Trail. The project is funded by a grant from the Mabee Foundation and came in under the anticipated cost. The lights will be similar to those on the MacArthur Trail and will operate from dusk till dawn. Safety phones may be added later.
• Emergency Generator Project (SMA 1504): The Municipal Authority awarded the contract for the backup generator project to All Phase Electric for $78,400. The lowest bidder was not selected due to past unacceptable work performance requiring another contractor to finish the job.
• Tennessee Lift Station Rehabilitation (SMA 50-3): The Municipal Authority awarded the contract for the lift station rehabilitation project to Jordan Contractors for $147,600. Similar to the generator project, the lowest bidder was not selected due to previous difficulties in completing jobs, which required going to the bond company.
• Legal Services Agreement: An agreement with Barbara Rous for legal services related to the protection and expansion of the city's utility services was tabled until the next meeting on 📅 March 16th, as the document was unavailable to some commissioners and a key staff member was absent.

Financial Matters

• Airport Trail Lighting: The city will be responsible for the electric bill for the new airport trail lighting, but the fee paid to OG&E includes all maintenance and operation costs.
• Emergency Generator & Lift Station Projects: These projects represent significant capital expenditures for infrastructure improvement, totaling $226,000 for the two contracts.
• Rock and Salt Storage: Discussion was held regarding the fenced-in property at 200 South Beard Avenue, which will be used to store rock and house street department salt barns. A previous proposal to install a railroad spur for bulk rock delivery was deemed too costly ($300,000) and required an impractical minimum order of 100 rail cars (approximately 5,500 tons) to achieve a price break, which exceeds the city's and county's combined usage.
