• 📅 Shawnee Safe Communities Month: April 2013 was officially proclaimed as Shawnee Safe Communities Month. Shawnee is recognized as the only city in Oklahoma, and one of only 14 cities nationwide, to hold the Safe Communities America designation from the National Safety Council.
• Employee of the Month: Lisa Blake, a 911 Dispatcher with the Police Department, was recognized as Employee of the Month. She was commended for her dedication, courteousness to callers, and effective assistance during a structure fire incident on March 13, 2013.
• City Employee Group Insurance Update: The insurance committee is currently reviewing seven qualification statements for a new consultant. The committee plans to meet again on 📅 Monday, April 8th, to narrow down candidates for interviews. Notably, the current employee group insurance plan (Blue Cross Blue Shield) will have a zero increase for the upcoming year. The Request for Qualifications (RFQ) deadline was 📅 Friday, April 5th, by noon.
• Water Conservation Reminder: The Mayor encouraged all citizens to practice voluntary water rationing and monitor their water usage. He urged everyone to check their water bills for usage graphs and aim to use less water than last year to prepare for potential drought conditions.

• Agenda and Consent Agendas Approved: The meeting agenda for the City Commission, as well as the consent agendas for the City Commission, Shawnee Municipal Authority, and Airport Authority, were all approved.
• Surplus Fire Department Vehicle Donated: A resolution was approved to declare a Homeland Security fire department vehicle as surplus and donate it to the City of Eufaula Fire Department. The vehicle was deemed too small for Shawnee's regional Hazmat trailer, and a new, larger one has been acquired. Eufaula will utilize the donated vehicle for a regional mass casualty trailer.
• Bryant and Independence Signalization Project Accepted: The traffic signal project at Bryant Street and Independence was accepted. The final construction cost came in at 💰 $192,834.52, which was $5,728 under the original contract bid of $198,562.62. Acceptance of the project places the maintenance bond into effect for a five-year period, covering potential issues with signals or electrical components.
• City Hall Parking Lot Improvement Project Bids Deferred: Four bids were received for the City Hall Parking Lot Improvement project (COS PW 1204). The lowest bid was 💰 $155,031.60 from All Roads Paving Inc., which was significantly below the initial estimate of $198,000. The item was deferred to the next meeting to allow staff to thoroughly review the bids and provide a recommendation.
